There are about 50 batik industries in Tasikmalaya spread out in three production centers located in three different villages which are 'Cipedes', 'Indihiang', and 'Sukaraja'. Batik industries employ more or less 600 workers, 70% of workers are women.

Like any other batik centers in Indonesia such as Solo, Pekalongan, Yogyakarta, etc, producing batik is part of local culture. Batik industries have been there since many many years ago.

Most of Batik industries are family business, inherited from generation to generation and managed traditionally. Eventhough, the businesses are very strong and keep growing. This is because the market demand for batik products relatively stable and even increase year by year. The major market of batik Tasikmalaya is domestic market.
